If you’ve seen a home that interests you but are not clear about the price and market value of the property then you should consider speaking to a professional appraiser. They will look very closely at the home, compare it to other homes for sale or that have sold in the recent past and give you an honest estimate on what they believe it’s worth. If it’s more than the asking price you’re in good shape, if it's less than you can get the appraisal in writing and use it as leverage to bring the seller’s asking price down.

Finally if you can’t find any good homes on your own online or in newspapers you should consider the assistance of a professional real estate agent. Often they have exclusive listings you won’t be able to see without them.  You may have to pay them a commission for their services but often they have access to the best properties on the market.
