Rock Garden
A rock garden can be a beautiful addition to your home landscape. Rock gardens are gardens made up of rocks with plants peeking out through the cracks. They are intended to be very natural looking, as if they grew there all by themselves. It is very easy to plant a rock garden and very easy to keep it up as well.
In order to plant a rock garden you need a lot of rocks. First you must lay a foundation of rocks in a circle with soil in the middle. Then, on top of this foundation lay another circle of rocks with soil in the middle. Plant a few plants in the soil and then add more rocks, so that the plants appear to be poking out through the spaces between the rocks. As you plant, keep adding more and more rocks—small rocks are good for this purpose. Use small rocks for mulching your rock garden. Keep in mind that the look you are going for is a large mass of rocks with plants popping out from between them so the more rocks the better.
When choosing the plants for your rock garden you should make sure that you choose plants that grow best when water permeates the soil, draining quickly down through the soil and rocks. Also make sure that the plants you choose thrive in full sun, as there isn’t much shade on top of rocks. Try to choose several different colors and varieties of plant too so that your rock garden will have variety. Try to have plants popping out from the rocks in as many spaces as possible.
A rock garden can be a great idea in a yard that is already filled with rocks. However, many people bring rocks into their gardens to create their own rock garden from scratch. Whatever the case, a rock garden can be a beautiful addition to your yard.
