One of the most important components of home landscaping is the patio.  Located in the back of a home, a patio is an outdoor space with a cleared area either from cement, stone, tile, brick or some other material.  The patio is used to sit and relax or to entertain guests.  Relaxing on a nicely landscaped patio is not only a great way to relieve stress, but homes with patios are also worth more money!

If you are interested in landscaping a patio in your yard the first thing you need to think about it the material you would like to use.  Patios are made from all sorts of different materials, from concrete to rocks, bricks and even tiles.  All of these materials are both great looking and durable.  If you have an already existing patio that you are looking to spruce up it is a good idea to clean the patio surface well.  If you are looking for a bigger change there are services that will paint your patio surface with weather-resistant paint in a variety of different colors.

Once you have figured out the patio surface you have to decide on patio furniture.  There are all different types of patio furniture from umbrella tables and chairs to relaxing reclined sun chairs.  Some people even decide to install a gazebo on their patio!  When choosing furniture, keep in mind the number of people that will be using your backyard to make sure you have enough seating for everyone.

The final step is to choose plants for your patio.  If you don’t feel like tending to a garden, potted plants can be nice.  Flowerbeds surrounding the patio can also add a nice touch.
