When considering home landscaping, many people forget to keep the driveway in mind.  The appearance of you driveway is incredibly important, as it is the first thing that people see when they come to your home.  An old, run down driveway can be an eye sore in the middle of your beautiful landscape, so it is important to make sure that you take care of driveway maintenance.

Many people are unaware of the costs of keeping up a driveway.  Depending on the material, upkeep can be necessary on an annual basis and could be very expensive.  The cheapest driveway material is gravel and the easiest to maintain.  It is also good because if you decide to upgrade your driveway gravel is very easy to pave over.  More expensive materials include cobblestone, brick and stamped asphalt.  These materials are expensive because they are not only pleasing to the eye but they last—sometimes for up to fifty years!  If you are installing a new driveway, it is important to think about these materials.  If you have an existing driveway, you must simply learn how to deal with the upkeep and maintenance of the material that your driveway is made from.

Once you have dealt with material you must deal with convenience.  It is incredibly important to make sure that there is a walkway from the driveway to the house and that this walkway isn’t obstructed in any way by plants, rocks or other objects.  You can line the driveway and walkways with flowers and plants as well to give you home a welcoming feel.

If you do your research and make your driveway something spectacular than you will find that the value of your home will be greatly increased.  This is why it is incredibly important to pay attention to the state of your driveway within the landscape of your home.
