The next step is to figure out what types of plants you want to use in your backyard.  Keep in mind that you want your backyard to look good year round, for all four seasons.  Therefore, it is important to choose a mix of plants that do well in different seasons so that you will always have something in bloom.  Evergreens are a good base, as they will stay green all year and they will be spruced up by the plants of each season.  You also need to group plants that require the same amount of water and sunlight together.  Don’t stick a plant that needs lots of water and shade together with a plant that thrives in bright sunlight and nearly dry soil.
