Living Room

Your living room is the room that sets the mood for your home.  It is the room where you probably entertain your guests, sit and relax, read, do work, play games, watch television and so much more.  The living room should be a reflection of your personality and your personal taste.  For this reason, home decorating in the living room is extremely important.

As with all the rooms in your house, the first step to an amazing living room is to avoid clutter.  If necessary, include shelves for extra “stuff” so that it won’t pile up on tables and make the room look messy.  You can even buy benches or tables with built in storage units to hide away the items that would normally lay scattered around the room.

The most important element of a living room is the furniture.  Before you choose furniture you should measure the room to make sure everything will fit—there is nothing worse than buying a sofa only to realize that it is too big once you get it into the space!

If you already have all your furniture and are looking for an easy way to spruce up your living room, a great home decorating technique is to add a splash of color.  You can do this by painting one wall, adding colorful curtains, a rug or throw pillows.  Another technique is to paint the back wall of a bookshelf.  If you choose to add color, be sure that you coordinate everything.  Using the wrong mix of colors can change the entire mood in the room and it will no longer be a relaxing getaway.

If the room is small you can make it appear larger by using lots of light and mirrors.

Finally, accessories like lampshades, artwork or photographs can add a touch of your own personality to your living room.  A well-coordinated, organized and bright living room can change your life for the better, so get to decorating!
