Feng Shui
Feng Shui is the Chinese practice of positive arrangement of space in order to achieve inner harmony. Literally translated as “wind-water”, Feng Shui strives to balance the five elements of water, earth, wood, metal and fire in our living and working spaces, therefore balancing our lives. People have successfully implemented Feng Shui in their decorating techniques for thousands of years and now Feng Shui can help you with your home decorating.
Feng Shui has many concepts, but there are several main threads that run through them. The first is to get rid of anything negative in your space. The first thing that must go is clutter. Clutter can make your environment feel tense and harsh. In order to feel harmonious and relaxed in your space you must eliminate mess and clutter. You probably know how good you feel after you have finished cleaning your house and everything is neat and spotless. You should strive for this neatness all the time.
Another way to eliminate negativity is by placing mirrors at the ends of hallways. This gives us the illusion that a hallway isn’t a dead end and cheers us up.
Color is another big element of Feng Shui. Feng Shui employs a color map in which we must place certain colors in certain areas of our space. Purple stands for prosperity, red for reputation, pink for love, yellow for health, green for family, white for creativity, black for career, blue for knowledge and grey for travel. The Feng Shui color map will tell you which areas to use these colors in order to maximize harmony in your life.
Whether or not you believe in the principals behind Feng Shui you can use these techniques to beautify your home. Feng Shui design lays out guidelines that will ensure that your home decoration will be relaxing, revitalizing and all around beautiful.
