Why must you think about this when taking out insurance? The main reason is that these disasters cause widespread damage and create a large volume of insurance claims for the damage of homes, businesses, cars and many other different types of property.

Usually insurance policies are available not only to the homeowner but the renter too. The different types of natural disaster insurance are:
Floods: Normally one can get replacement cost coverage for the structure of the home, however with regards to the possessions within it these are paid out in actual cash value. You need to pay close attention as there may be limitations on coverage for furniture and other items stored in your basement.

Flood insurance is needed when the house is located in a designated flood zone. If your home is in an area where it is susceptible to be flooded by melting snow, an overflowing creek or river, this is a good insurance to have.
Earthquakes: Depending where you live and if there are active areas around your home, then earthquake insurance should be taken out for your home. Obviously, in areas where there is a lot of earthquake movement, the chances are higher for damage then insurance is a must.

Maintenance damage: reasonable safety precautions to protect your home from damage are your responsibility. Most often insurance companies will not cover damage due to the lack of poor maintenance, mold, termite and other pest infestation.

If for unforeseen circumstances your home and its contents are damaged due to natural disasters it would be better to be covered and have the peace of mind that you and your family have not lost everything. These insurance policies might be expensive but you will be grateful for them if and when they are needed.
