Tag Sales
Do you know what a tag sale is? Also known as a garage sale or a yard sale, a tag sale is where many people sell their unwanted possessions.
There are many reasons why you may want to do this. If you're moving house and selling your property, it can be useful to rid yourself of your old “junk” before the big move. Maybe your children have left home and you're looking to get rid of old toys and furniture. Or perhaps you've accumulated three of everything over the years and are desperate for some extra space in your home. Whatever the reason, a tag sale can help you convert your unwanted household goods into useful cash.
People that attend tag sales do so to find useful items at bargain prices. Many items in tag sales are new, or almost new and are being sold purely because their owner doesn't need them any more. So there are obviously great bargains to be found and if you start attending tag sales in your local area, you are likely to meet many of the same people.
Unlike auctions where many people come in the last stages to bid for items that have been reduced, tag sales attract a particular type of bargain hunter known as the “early bird.” These people will make sure they arrive at a tag sale as soon as it opens with the hope of purchasing the best items. While a bidding system is rarely used at tag sales, haggling and bargaining is commonplace.
Tag sales are usually advertized by signs, flyers and by small advertisements in local newspapers. The venue is usually the seller's home and most typically their garage, porch or driveway. The most popular time to hold tag sales is on weekends in the spring and summer when the weather is clear and warm. And if you're planning a tag sale and want to get the most for your money, the best time to hold one is at the beginning of the month when most people have received their monthly pay check.
