Finding Auctions in Your Area

Attending an auction is a great way to find bargains on household items, antiques, jewellery and other collectible items. If you're looking to find second-hand items in good condition, an auction offers you the opportunity to bid for what you want and to pay cash for your purchases.

Auctions are far more common than you may think. Generally every major town or city in the country is home to a regular auction. No matter what the size, you can usually find something of interest or worth there so it pays to know where to go to find the best auctions in your local area.

There are several ways you can do this. Local newspapers are a great source of information and will often print advertisements for auctions. Along with lists of the items being sold at the auction, newspaper ads will give you directions on how to get there. General information such as the company conducting the auction, the methods of payment available and the procedure for bidding may be listed as well.

A second way to find the best auctions in your area is to search online. Many companies that run auctions will keep an up to date schedule of events on their website. You can also access nationwide auction databases which will let you search for auctions using your zipcode or the name of your state. Many of these websites serve the same purpose as auction catalogues. You will be able to view many of the items for sale before you attend. You can also find out what the reserve prices on interesting items are if they are “restricted” items.

Another way to find out about local auctions is to search noticeboards at supermarkets and public libraries. Many community noticeboards will display flyers for up and coming auctions, along with garage and tag sales. So there is no reason why you should miss out on a bargain!
