Default Sponge Painting

Have you ever seen walls sponge painted? They are really beautiful when they are done and it's so easy to do. Also this is great for houses with kids and pets because you can always re-sponge over small sections of the walls when they get scuffed or scratched. You can completely cover up the imperfections within a few minutes and refresh the wall.

The best way to sponge a wall is to use three colors. You can use three contrasting colors to give the walls a bold look or use similar colors for a more subtle look. I prefer similar colors. I think the end results are just beautiful.

Here is how to do it...

Choose three paints.
1. basecoat (flat latex or eggshell is best)
2. Color 2 (first sponge color- same sheen as base)\
3. Color 3 ( second sponge color- same sheen as base)

Prepare the walls by removing nails, repairing if necessary and prime if needed.
Cover furniture, tape off all trim and so on.

First apply the base color. Allow it to dry for 4-8 hours. Next put sponge color 2 in paint tray and put sponge color 3 in another paint tray. Dip your sponge in paint and blot off excess on paper. Begin with your sponge color 2. Apply it all over one wall. Next do the same with your sponge color 3. Be careful not to overload your sponge at any point or to press to hard against the wall. It's a good idea to twist your hand in different directions so that you get a unique look.

As you are sponging the third color over the second, take a step back from the wall once in a while to check for bare spots.
