'Word of mouth' marketing is a great way to advertise your business or what you are selling. It takes a series of steps in order for you to get the full benefits from it, it isn't doing just one thing and being done with it.

Instead, I'd like to submit that marketing is a more process oriented endeavor, and that the real "secret" is finding the two or three processes that work with your business - and focusing on them with laser-like precision.
