Default Severe heat

With all this heat we are all having at this time, make sure you are keeping your gardens, keep your air conditioners on, fans are not enough to keep you cool, there are shelters open in most places if you have no air conditioner.

So to all of you keep cool, drink plenty of water, take care of your pets, make sure they have plenty of water also.

So to everyone out there. keep cool, drink plenty of water, keep your garden watered the best you can. With this heat that is all I go outside for to water my plants.

Also to help keep your homes cooler during this heat wave keep the sunlight out as much as possible. Sunlight only helps to heat your home so blocking it is going to help cool things off a bit.

The temps in my area are going to be in the mid 90's all week. So the need to stay cool is important. If you don't have fans or air conditioners available, spend the day getting some exercise by walking around the mall and shops.

If possible don't leave pets outdoors. This heat is unhealthy for them and they can suffer heat strokes as easily as people do. So bring them indoors if possible and if not keep their water dish clean and filled with cool water and make a shelter for them to escape the sun.

Also don't cook on the stove or use the oven. This seriously raises the heat in the house. Cook outside if possible or even in the microwave. Even better lunch meat isn't really just for lunch!

For those who have room in the home that aren't used, close them off. This will help cool the living areas of the house easier.

Stay Cool Everyone!!!

We don't have central air in our house. Typically we don't need it. A couple of fans usually keep it cool enough. But not now! The weather man said today we should experience temps combined with the heat index at 110 in the shade! It's aweful. The humidity is what makes it unbearable.

I am dreading going to work this afternoon. I am going to roast!

A friend works in HVAC and passed these tips along:

- Put a patio umbrella over your AC unit to help cool it off, and it becomes more efficient

- Alternately, you can set your lawn sprinkler towards your AC unit and it will also cool it off. Of course, if there are local watering restrictions due to the drought, the patio umbrella is the best idea.

Neat tips Rickster! Thanks for sharing them. I never thought about protecting the air conditioning units from the sun. I will also be sure to pass these tips along to others.

The better we all can help keep ourselves cool the better we are all around.
