Default Seniors Choosing to Take on Roommates

This doesn't really have anything to do with house flipping but I think it's a neat concept and thought I'd share.

I read an article about how more and more seniors are choosing to stay in their own homes which they already own rather than moving to retirement communities or other destinations which have been the thing to do in the past.

Money becomes tight sometimes as a senior citizen and it can be difficult to afford the bills on your own. Seniors are taking on roommates to help out financially and also give them a sense of community.

They have their own rooms for privacy but share the common areas of the home. This way they also have each other to look out for one another.

I love this concept. It's a great idea.

When anyone takes on a roommate you need to be careful, make sure to check their back round real well, and best of all make sure you know them very good, or this could lead you to a lot of trouble.

Taking on a roommate can be very helpful when it comes to paying the monthly bills. Most seniors are on a very limited income and find it very hard to make ends meet. Having a roommate can help a lot in this area.

Just make sure that after you have chosen the person that will be living in your home that you list the ground rules up front and it might even be a good idea to list on paper just what bills each one is to pay. That also includes sharing in repairs and groceries as this is something each one would have to pay for no matter where they live.

I would definitely recommend a background check just in case and also a contract that lists all terms signed by all parties and notorized as well. You gotta cover your own neck!

It is a great idea though. This way they can still have a sense of freedom, help with the bills and simply have people around them easily when it's wanted.
