Default Plywood or chipboard.

I didn't realize it but there are two different types of this material. I figured it out after my stupid little dog decided to pee on the floor in my back room.

It started to come up and was unlike the flooring in my bathroom. I started seeing little pieces of wood when I swept the floor.

In the bathroom the floor peels up in strips or bubbles up. It doesn't make sense to me that someone would have used chipboard as a flooring material.

Oh well at least now I know which is which and that I would never recommend chipboard for a floor. Wow the guy who built this house was nuts.

He used the strangest thing to build things. Like the mirror over my sink in the bathroom. Its a homemade box which is cool but the mirror slides in aluminum pieces that were designed for siding. Nuts and can cut you if your not careful.

Unfortunately a lot of people use inferior materials for some jobs just simply because they are cheaper. And chipboard on a floor was certainly not a good choice at all.

Another use for it is in the bottom of kitchen cupboards and believe me when I say that this isnt a good choice either. If its used in a cupboard under the sink it can get wet and it does tend to sag and come apart when wet.

I just read an article that said it can be used for roofing etc but to me this isnt a good idea either. It is not as strong as plywood and again you have the issue of it getting wet if your roof leaks.

So it is best to use plywood in all of these places that may get water or other fluids on them. Even though plywood is a little more expensive, it will save you money in the long run.

Seems to me that using chipboard is like trying to build a house out of cardboard.

Once its wet your house starts to crumble and fall in on you. I hate it when people get this cheap.

Its gonna cost quite a bit to replace the floor but it has to be done and will be much safer in the end.

Just makes me mad that we couldn't see it before hand. It was of course covered by a rug so there really was no way to know.
