Default Pet Friendly.

How many times have you tried to find a home for rent but couldn't find one that was pet friendly?

It seems to me that homes for sale should also be pet friendly. It doesn't mean that anyone is ever going to say that you can't buy a house and then not have a pet.

I just think that having pet owners in mind when you prepare a home for sale is important too.

Pet doors and fences are great places to start. Are there any specific pet problems in or around the yard?

Dangerous chemicals and plants should be removed. No one wants to loose a pet to something like that.

Porches and decks should be able to be secured for both pets and children.

Great tips here, most of the time pets are not even thought about when someone is selling a home.

Though I know that when we went looking for a new house for my daughter, that is something we kept in mind.

She has several animals including a dog, a cat, a snake and 3 ferrets. Its almost a zoo at her home.

When we were looking for a home for her, we had to consider the amount of space that the animals also take up, and of course now that she is expecting her first child, we also need to find a place that will have enough space for everyone.

To me seeing a home that has doggie doors, fenced in area and so on would be a great selling point. This is just my opinion though.

I totally agree with both of you. No one thinks about are best friends, but they are very important to anyone who has some. I am a renter, and its almost impossible to find a nice place that allows pets...and thats sad. Its not the pets that are the problem, its the owners that don't take care of their "friends" that should be "not rented to"....Having a dog is like having a security system in your home, and renters/landlords should look at it that way. And if owners were more responsible for thier pets, maybe it would be easier to find places that except pets.

Now buying a home is different, i wish i had that problem..lol.....but I have many pets, that live indoors now, but if I had my own home, I would love a fenced in yard where they could go outside and play safely...so a fence, a little door for them to come and go, a nice shady tree to put a dog house..etc...under would also be a nice selling point for me...and even a little pond that my dog could go wading in would definitely catch my eye.
