Default Home owners insurance.

When we were looking at homes to buy we discussed getting a home insured.

We contacted our insurance company about doing so and discovered that it wasn't going to happen.

We were told that until we had rented the home out they would not insure it.

This worries me as buying a home and not having some kind of insurance on it seems like a giant risk to me.

You are going to be putting additional monies into fixing it before you can sell or rent it.

If a storm were to damage it or it should catch on fire you have a complete loss with nothing to replace it.

What would be left but an empty lot. I don't understand why you can't at least get replacement value insurance.

Does anyone know how you can get insurance for a home you buy that you are going to rent or flip?

That seems quite unusual for them to not want to insure until it is occupied. I have never even heard of such a thing. Maybe shop around with different insurance companies and see what can be done for you. I wouldn't want to put any money into it either if I wasn't covered.

Sounds to me that you have found an insurance company with low standards. I also have to say that you really should shop around for a better insurance company. All homes should be insured and finding a company that refuses to do so until it is occupied just isnt right at all.
