Default Home Maintenance

You know of course that every house requires upkeep and maintenance in order to keep things nice. This is true of the house you live in and the one you have on the market for sale as well. If you don't keep things up they can fall apart quickly.

There are some things that are a must to keep up on for each season of the year.

Winter- Clean or replace the filter in the furnace. This will allow the unit to operate more efficiently. Caulk the windows and make sure everything is insulated properly.

Spring- Clean the chimney. Wash and treat decking and make any repairs that old man winter caused.

Summer- Check the roof to see if any repairs need to be made after all of the Spring rains. Replace the filter on the central air system to keep it running smoothly.

Fall- Get ready for the upcoming cold weather and snow. Make sure everything is sealed up and in good working order. Make any obvious repairs now before the chill sets in.

I made the mistake of putting things off to long and have had to wait til the weather broke to get things repaired or replaced.

That is one mistake that I will never allow to happen again.

Though during the winter months I did get the chance to look around and make a good plan as to what was going to need done as well as what did need to be done.

I must say that its better to take care of things before it becomes a must. It can save you alot of money and headache later.

Hey there troubles74, welcome to New House Flip. Glad to have you with us.

Now to home maintainance. With the weather being what it has been here and all the snow and icicles hanging off the roofs, one of the first things we should check when the weather permits is any possible damage to the roof edge.

We have had icicles that I know weigh about 30 pounds hanging off the roof during this winter and another thing you have to watch for with them is when it does start to thaw, those icicles will start falling and can cause people below to be badly hurt.

So, if you can, knock them down before the temps start to rise so no one is hurt. And when the weather gets better, dont forget to check for damage to the roof as the water can get under the shingles and freeze causing even more damage.
