Default Hoarders.

I watch a television show quite frequently that is about persons who hoard things. From food to animals. It is unbelievable the mess that some people live in.

This is a mental illness that over time can ruin the physical health of people as well. The rotten food and animal feces can cause major health issues.

There have been cases where people have been told by their landlords to clean up or get thrown out. I think that the threat may motivate some but sometimes the mental illness gets in the way.

Has anyone ever had to deal with this personally? I haven't and never want to. Since I started watching this show I have decided it is time to clean house. There are things here that we just don't need anymore.

This is a serious illness. I have also watched this show before but alot of the time I cant stomach seeing the homes of these people.

I personally havent had to deal with something like this or someone who suffers this illness, nor would I want to. This illness keeps them from getting rid of anything, and things just continue to pile up, til there is barely room to live in the home.

I saw one show where a woman actually started purchasing coolers to store food in because the 17 refrigerators that the owned were full of rotten food, yet she continued to buy groceries, rather than clean out the full refrigerators.

I can be a pack rat when it comes to some things, but there is a huge difference between being a pack rat and a hoarder.

I was paid one time to clean out a house that the previous renter left a mess. I could almost say that those people who had lived there were hoarders as well. It took months to clean out the house. We took in 15 truck loads of nothing but clothes, and the poor truck was completely packed full for each load. It was horrible.

I watch that show sometimes too. I watched one episode where these people hoarded cats and they would throw boxes and stuff in this room for the cats to play and sleep in. There must have been 100 boxes and other garbage just tossed all over this room. They were piled to the ceiling. As they were cleaning the room, they found 100+ cats... dead and alive! It was really gross. It is an illness though. I feel bad for those people.
