Default Getting rid of mold and mildew.

As we all know, this past winter was a very long, very wet winter and with all the moisture comes mold and mildew and it will get worse when hot humid weather gets here. So here are a few products you can use to rid your home and even your roof of mold and mildew.

Moldzyme is a plant derived mold and mildew product that goes to the source of each and kills it completely. Good to use on patio furniture.

Krud Kutter has no ammonia or bleach and can be used on sinks, showers, tubs etc.

Back to Nature also contains no bleach or ammonia and is said to inhibit regrowth of mold and mildew.

Roof Mildew Cleaner contains no bleach and is used by spraying on the roof, waiting a half hour, then hosing the roof off. It removes stains, algae, mold and mildew.

Roof mildew is usually found on the side of the house where the roof gets no sunlight. And mold and mildew on the roof can make it very unsightly so finding an easy way to remove it, like the product above, is essential.

Step 1 - Find out what types mold you have. Test Kits are available at most home centers, hardware stores, pharmacy chains, supermarkets, and online. By placing Petri dishes from the kit in locations where you suspect mold, a sample can be obtained and mailed to a lab for analysis to identify the exact count and type of mold present.

Step 2 - Remove the source of mold. Moisture is the main cause of mold growth. Repair any water leaks in the roof, walls or basement. Caulk your shower or any place where moisture could get behind walls or in floors. Seal your basement or foundation slab with a deep penetration concrete sealer. Reduce humidity in your home by using a dehumidifier.

Step 3 - Chlorine bleach will only temporarily remove mold. Use a fungicide cleaner to remove mold from surfaces. Clean your refrigerator inside, outside and underneath.

Step 4 - Install an air purifier in your environment. Have your HVAC system and duct work cleaned by a professional.

Step 5 -Prevent mold by not storing wood, cloth, paper or other porous material in your basement or underneath your house.

Mold and mildew are very unsightly and can even be hazardous to your health. Which is why it is important that these problems be dealt with promptly.

These tips that you both have listed here are great!! I will be sure to pass them along to those who I know are having a rough time dealing with the growth of mildew and mold.

Mold can kill. It's a simple fact. Scary but true. If you notice mold you need to deal with it right away! Don't put it off until it's too late.

Great tips guys. Very useful.

It really is scary, I have heard of several people being forced out of their homes because of illness's and breathing problems and it was all because there was a mold growth some where in the home that was causing some serious health problems.

It's amazing that something like mold could cause such problems but its true it can be a killer, which is why its important to have the home inspected if you notice yourself or family getting sick a lot because you could have a mold problem.

I would rather fork over the money to have my home inspected and cleaned if necessary rather than lose a loved one.
