Default Clogged Gutters

While we were all sitting out on the porch one day while it was raining, we noticed water dripping down one of our windows from the gutter.

Of course we couldnt do anything about it just then because we were having a real nice storm at the time.

Though yesterday while the weather was fairly nice, my sweetie got up there and starting checking out all the gutters.

Most of them we found to be completely clogged up with leaves, birds nests, and other junk.

It was an aweful mess. I thought I would post about it to remind everyone to clean out your homes gutters at least once a year.

Thankfully this was done before winter set in. That would have made an aweful mess as the snow would melt, drip then re-freeze on the ground making an ice rink in our yard.

Now that the gutters are cleaned out the rain and snow will flow through the gutters and into a drainage system beneath the house where it belongs.

Clogged gutters can cause alot of damage to the house, because water is forced to find other means of travel when a clog is found.

It is recommended that a homes gutters are cleaned at least once a year. I know that from now on we will be cleaning them out at least twice a year just to make sure that this problem doesnt happen again in the future.

Last summer we had the same problem. We pretty much live in the woods, we are completely surrounded by trees. I have a two story home and one day I was in my kitchen (it was raining) and I noticed a drip through the ceiling. Here, the gutter on the upper roof was clogged and it caused the water to run down the kitchen roof in an odd way and it was able to get under the shingles. Thank goodness no damage was done and it was an easy fix.

Glad to hear that you caught that clog in time. Glogged drains are a huge problem and can cause thousands of dollars in damage to homes.

Because of our little problem with clogged gutters, we are also checking the homes of several elderly who are not able to take care of it themselves. This way everyone will be ready for winter.

I cant say that I live out in the woods. Actually I live in the city limits, but I am surrounded with trains, trees and wood burners. We end up with all kinds of stuff in our gutters,LOL.
