Default Appliances

We got a pretty bad winter storm here where I live about a month. (Well, the first of many bad snowstorms we have had!) The storm brought a ton of snow, ice and wind with it. The weight of the snow on the trees and the power lines caused them to snap and be uprooted. It knocked the power out, damaged a lot of houses and vehicles and everything else you can imagine. Our power was out for four days.

I have a digital electric freestanding stove. Either when the power was knocked out or when it came back on my stove got fried. It just beeps over and over again and flashes an error message. Here it needs a new oven control which is a thing that looks like it belongs in a computer lol. It costs $250.00 to replace just that part.

I really did not want to spend that much on a stove that is already six or seven years old. So I had planned to just buy a used stove. I have looked everywhere and the only ones I could find cost $250.00! Wouldn't you know it! Again, I didn't want to spend that much on an older stove.

So finally I decided to just get it over with and buy a new one. I picked out a black one with a self-cleaning oven and a smooth ceramic cooktop. It cost $450.00 and is under warranty for the next five years. I think I made the best decision. I sure hope I did anyhow lol.

Let me tell ya, it's been a real pain in the booty trying to prepare meals on a two burner hotplate!

I can't wait til my new stove gets here.

Whats really funny is my kids made me promise them that the first thing they get for dinner once we get the new stove is DiGiorno pizzas! (We really miss the oven lol)

Appliances are terribly expensive anymore. I am sorry to hear that a power outage managed to take your stove out. That would really stink and make life much more difficult.

I to have had to cook on hotplates and its no walk in the park. It seems to take forever to cook anything on those things. Sometimes I though it would have been better to buy a cheap grill instead of that thing. It most likely would have been faster at least,LOL.

I am happy to hear that you are getting a new stove. Sounds like you got a great deal and a nice warrenty on it. Hopefully if your power manages to go out again this stove will be able to hold up under the pressure.

Glad you decided on a new one. I know it cost more but when you buy used seems like you are buying someone else's headache..LOL

But sometimes we can't help it, we have to go used cause of the money factor. I know I did when my frig went out. I was lucky so far everything is fine on it.

I definitely think that I made the right decision. I figure I can have it paid off within five months if I stick to my plan so that won't be too bad. I just wish it would get here already! I can't take cooking on that hot plate anymore! I want something fresh baked from the oven lol!
