Default Mike Holmes Like a Pop Icon

Mike Holmes of HGTV's "holmes on Homes" is like a pop icon these days. But according to him, he never set out for it to be that way. He says he never had any intention of becoming any kind of celebrity or as he said "headlining handyman".

But he is.

I don't know anyone who has watched his shows and doesn't like him and what he does. I love his show and I love how he helps people to make ther homes safe.

Quote:
“I got into this by accident,” says the 48-year-old Torontonian, in Vancouver recently to promote his two new books — Make it Right: Kitchens and Bathrooms and Make it Right: Attics and Basements. “I met the executive director of HGTV Canada and he asked me to build a custom home for him ... I’ve got a big mouth, so I told him I had an idea for a show because I was tired of people getting screwed by crooked contractors.”

After just a few hours of talking the executive director had Mike convinced to lead the show even though Mike felt that he wasn't a television guy.

Boy was he wrong! He has a huge following and his fans love him!

Default Re: Mike Holmes Like a Pop Icon

I love watching his shows, and it is amazing to see the crappy work that several contractors do to peoples homes.

I am glad that Mike Holmes has his show, and hopefully one of these days all contractors will start to realize what they are doing to people and put a stop to it.

Seriously it is a shame that someone like Mike Holmes is even needed to repair what other contractors have done to peoples homes. Some of the things I have seen Mike have to repair really scares me. I am not sure if I will ever have the guts to hire a contractor with out doing extensive research on them and get some recommendations from people they have done work for.

Sounds horrible of me but the very last thing I would want to do ( especially right now with money being tight) is pay out thousands of dollars to have some work done only to find out later that they work was only done partically and could cause injury or death!!
