I can understand both sides of the story here. Maybe the owner really needed to sell the property, maybe they didn't have a choice. On the other hand, the renters probably were comfortable with the home and just didn't want to move. Maybe they couldn't afford to buy the house themselves. Who knows. It's just an unfortunate situation.
I hadn't heard of a television show about that. I did find an article on the topic though and this sort of thing does happen quite a bit.

It goes on to say that a renter may try to sabatoge the sale. Tennants may have the place messy purposely. Many times they even refuse to leave during the showings.
