Construction Permits

Have any of you had to get a permit to make changes to your landscape because of the city law? I live in the outskirts of town and have never really had to deal with this.

I was talking to my co-worker the other day about this. She lives in town and was adding a deck to her pool and had to go through all kinds of red tape to obtain the permit so that they could begin construction. She told me that actually they are supposed to gain permits for major changes inside of their house as well. Have any of you heard of this before? I haven't. It was my understanding that you only had to obtain a permit for outside construction changes such as decks and pools and walls. I am very confused about this. Maybe she is just misunderstanding what the law is. I really don't know. It has me wondering though.

I have heard of this. Especially if you are adding on to your home, say another room.

Inside changes can affect you as far as permits go. The construction codes change periodically.

Electrical work needs to be up to code especially if you intend to sell your home some day.

Check with your local courthouse for details. They can assist you as to weather you will need a permit or not.
