Default Building and Development Permits

Make sure whatever you do, that you acquire or your contractor aquires whatever permits are necessary for the renovations being done in your house. Believe me, it's much better to do things the right way now rather than deal with fines later!

Permits can be expensive but they are a necessary evil. They ensure that things being done are done the right way.

A renovation may require a buidling permit or a development permit or sometimes even both.

A renovation permit is typically for things inside the house such as electrical or plumbing.

A development permit is for any construction that changes the outside of the house such as adding an addition.

If you are doing the renovation yourself then you must aquire the proper permits. If a contractor is doing the work then that person should take the proper steps to aquire the necessary permits.
