Default Home Renovations Do's and Don'ts

I won't even pretend to be a home renovator expert but I have learned a lot over the years just by research and great information that I have gotten from this forum. One thing I am certain about is that you can do too much. You can go too far. Sometimes less is best.

The basic home renovation rule of thumb is never spend more than 25 percent of the value of the house on renovations. You won't be able to get it back.

Also home renovations need to depend on whether you are flipping the house or plan to live there for a long time yourself.

You may have always wanted one of those fancy spa pools. If you plan to stay there in that house then go for it. But if you plan to sell in the near future you most likely won't get your money back for it.

Just make sure that the renovations that you do make sense for what your plans are for the house.
