Default Water Damage and Repair

A friend of my families recently had a water line break inside their mobile home while they were away, due to an illness at the hospital. Apparently the break happened sometime during the night and no one was there to get the water shut off.

Well because of this the entire floor in the bathroom, hallway and bedroom had to be replaced. Even the lower sections of the wall had to be removed and replaced as well because of the damage.

I don't know how much it cost to have all of this done, but you know it had to cost a pretty penny because replacing the walls, floors, carpets and so on is not a cheap process.

Though thankfully it worked out well that they knew someone who knows how to do this kind of work and gave them a great deal on the labor.

Problem is that you just never know when something like this is going to happen and it usually happens at the worst possible times. At least it all worked out here but often times it doesn't.

Water can do serious damage to a house thats for sure.

A long time ago we had an old washer. Apparently it had been leaking underneath for goodness only knows how long. It leaked just enough to where we never noticed it. It never ran out from under the washer. Well I pulled the washer out to clean underneath of it and the floor was completely warped and rotted out. It was a mess. We had to replace that section. It was amazing that the washer never fell through the rotted floor.

Yes water does cause a lot of damage to a home!!

Sorry to hear what your washer did to your flooring, but at least you found the damage before your washer decided to take a trip to the next floor down.

For just that reason alone it is a good idea to pull appliances out at least once a year if not twice to clean behind it and check for damages like you discovered.

Sometimes it does not take very long at all for water to cause serious damage to a home.

I hope that you also found out why your washer was leaking in the first place and was able to get that repaired to prevent the problem from happening again.

We had a problem with our washer leaking, but luckily it is in the basement on a concrete pad. So no damage done.

We checked it out and luckily all it was was the drain hose had slipped part of the way out of the drain. So, now I know that every time I do laundry, to just simply push that hose back in the drain all the way and that prevents the leaking.

You have to be careful even with water leaking on concrete, because if you have a real smooth finish on the concrete floor, standing water can cause a bad fall as the surface of the concrete, when wet, is just like ice.

I am not sure what they are called Flippinout but there is a clip that you can purchase for those hoses to prevent them from slipping out of the drain.

I bought one several years ago and they were not very expensive. Just a few dollars and they really work nicely.

I never have to worry about my hoses doing that anymore. I also had that very same problem with my washer and its a pain to remember doing that and if it is set up like mine was then it is also a pain getting back there to reach the hose to shove it back into the drain.

Until I was able to get to the store to get the clip for the hose, I simply used a bit of duct tape to hold it in there. That also works well as a temporary fix. Though I don't recommend on using that method very long. Even if the tape gets a little wet it won't hold very well.

So next time that your out and about maybe stop at your local hardware store and see about getting this clip to hold the hose so that you no longer have to worry about the hose slipping and water getting every where.

If I am correct when I purchased this clip it cost me like $5.00 or less. Well worth the price.
