Default Uncovering Old Wood Floors

This isn't exactly a project that I have going on right now but something that I really want to do.

My house is old. Really old. It's somewhere between 80 and 100 years old. Just about everything is worn out and we have been replacing things little by little. One thing that I have no desire to replace is the floors.

Most of the visible flooring in my house is tile or carpeting. But underneath the years and years of layers of tile and carpeting is wood floors. Real wood floors. Tongue and groove!

I just read an article that says people are too quick to rip out the old flooring or they put floating floors on top of the tongue and groove. Thats a big mistake. Real wood flooring adds a ton of value to a house, especially if it the old stuff because it is so rare anymore.

I read that you can refinish an old wood floor, even if it seems to have been used and abused, for about $1,300. Thats to have a company come in and do it for you. If you can do the work yourself it would be a lot cheaper. It's a lot of hard work but I think it would be so worth it in the end.

You are so right, the old wood floors are beautiful when redone and it will add a lot of value to your home.

We lived in one home that had a room that had solid oak tongue and groove flooring under about 4 layers of lineoleum and a layer of carpeting.

Finding that flooring was like finding a treasure.

It cleaned up beautifully without having to be sanded and redone and the it gave a wonderfully warm look to the room when everything was done.
