Many parents of teenagers are coming up with ideas for keeping their kids at home, instead of having to wonder where they are hanging out, and who they may be hanging out with. A lot of these parents are concerned about their children being out at parties that may have drinking and drugs involved, not to mention the sexual activity. They feel that having a space for the kids to hang out at home is well worth the price of the renovation.

FOR Keith and Tracy Tobias, the parents of three teenagers in La Quinta, Calif., turning an old workshop behind their house into a movie theater for their children was an obvious move. “We’re very social and our kids have grown up with that,” Ms. Tobias said. “We’re a party family.” In fact, the couple’s reasons had to do with more than their love of fun. The Tobiases were looking for a way to keep their children at home.

I think it's great to have a room for the kids to hang out in at home. Having raised 3 daughters, I know the worry that comes from having a child out at a party. A parent is never absolutely sure that all is well, unless he/she can look around the corner and see what is going on. I know I was always happiest when the kids were hanging out at my house with their friends.
