Default Renovation of an old house.

We have a friend that bought an older house and everyone told him it needed torn down or to let the fire department use it for practice. But, "George" persevered in his quest to renovate this 2 story gem.

He started his renovation by having the house leveled because the one side sat practically on the ground and with all the years of water, and freezing, etc, that side had sank just a little making the inside floors etc, crooked.

That done, "George" had the inside completely gutted, had insulation installed, which being an old house, had little or none, then had drywall put up. All this was done after every window in the house had been replaced with brand new, energy efficient windows. He also replaced all outside doors with brand new ones.

"George" also had a french door installed in the living room area of the house, and when he has the wraparound porch built, will be a beautiful addition to this wonderful old house.

There is still some more renovating to be done in the kitchen, ie: the new cupboards and countertops, and a little more to be done in the bathroom. When all that is done, "George", plans on adding one more room on the back of the house, which will completely finish off this project that he has started. When he is done, he would be able to see this beautiful old house for much more than what he has in it.

The beauty of this old, newly refurbished home is the location. It sits on a hill and is surrounded on 2 sides and the back of the house by woods. Plus it is the last house on that lane and sits by itself lending the feeling of complete privacy. And in the summer, you cant even see the house for the line of trees in the lower part of the front yard.

For something that everyone said should be destroyed, "George" surely has come out on top with his $5000 investment. And since "George", has done some wise purchasing of materials, and hired good contractors at great prices, his $5000 investment should bring him some great returns if he should, at sometime in the future decide to sell this house that has 5 acres of land surrounding it.
