Default Our Unwanted Winter Renovations

Just yesterday we were hit with some really high winds in our area. There was debris flying everywhere. I watched as Christmas decorations were being blown down, tree branches, papers and other junk being blown down the road. It was horrible.

Worst part is the small shed that was built onto our home many years ago practically blew apart. This shed was very old and was not built very well. We had made plans to tear it down come spring time, but it looks like it just wont wait that long.

Due to safety reasons we are both going out there this evening to get the rest of it down with the help of our neighbor. Thankfully there was nothing stored in there that could have gotten damaged, or at least not damaged to the point that its now junk.

Mostly there was only a couple of motors in there, a transmission, a few other car parts and some wooden craft stuff. None of this should have recieved much if any damage, thankfully. I guess when we head out there to start the clean up we will find out for sure.

Our insurance company would pay to remove it all, but of course we would have to pay the deductable. In the end it would be cheaper for us to remove it ourselves, plus the wood can be used to burn in the garage's wood burner if ever needed.

We had really high winds as well for two days straight. It was aweful. Just last weekend I had put out all our Christmas decorations and had everything looking really nice. Now the lights are barely hanging, the garland was torn to shreds and my blow-up Rudolph was tossed about in the wind. I don't know if he was damaged or not!

I was talking to people at work and some of them said they now have to replace siding that was ripped out and all sorts of things.

Its amazing how something that you really cant even see can cause so much damage to a home.

There are alot of people in my area that also have to replace shingles on their roofs, one chimney fell in, fences were blown over.

Its just unreal. That wind was horrible!!! Hopefully we wont be having anymore of that for a good while.

We did manage to get our old shed completely cleaned up and everything that was in it was not damaged. The wood is now stored in the garage waiting to be burned in the wood burner. There is enough there to last several days if we should lose power for any length of time again.

Our garage has a room above it with beds and emergency items. That wood burner is big enough to heat the entire garage easily. This is something that we did this past summer just in case of such an emergency. We havent had to use it yet, but we feel alot better knowing that it is there.
