Default My Current Renovation Project

Welp I have started a new project here at home. Why did I start it lol! It's definitely a project!

No it really needed done.

We are tearing out the old carpeting in my hallway and going to lay tile there. As I have said before my house is really really old and so are the floors! Little by little we have been and are replacing them.

I have a very large hallway so it's no easy task. They had carpeting, carpet padding and then tile below that.

The padding was so old and worn it was more like dirt than anything else! Gross! It was really crumbly. Getting the old tiles out is the hard part. We are getting there though, little by little. I am trying to be careful about it because the wood below is still fine. I don't want to damage it.

Projects like the one you are now undertaking can be time consuming, dirty, and a lot of hard work, but the end result is well worth the effort.

My question is this, since it is an older home, and if it has good wood floors under the old carpet, padding, and other tile, why would you cover the wood floor up.

The wood floor would be more in keeping with the style of an older home and if its good wood flooring, sanding it and revarnishing it would be the way to go. And as I said, it would be more in keeping with the style of an older home.

If it were tongue and groove under there I would be all over it! I love hardwood floors!

This isn't the pretty stuff though, it's plywood. Blah! It is in great shape though so I don't want to have to replace it.

We did make a little more progress on it today.

Some of it came up pretty easily but some doesn't want to budge.

Today I wet an old towel and layed it out over some of the stubborn tile and then I ironed the towel. It did help to loosen it up some. So this will be my method. I didn't get as much done as I would have liked though because my son had ball practice and my youngest daughter had a game. I probably won't get it done until this weekend sometime.

I read about some stuff that you can buy to help loosen the adhesive but it has to be used in well ventilated areas and my hallway is not. So thats not a good option for us.

I am getting there with my project a little bit at a time. It is insane how stuck these floor tiles are. They look like they are about 100 years old lol. I don't know what they used to glue them but it's good stuff!

I just finished up chipping away at some more of it and after a little break i will begin again.

I am doing this between working and running kids around so it is taking me longer than it normally would. Thats okay though. It's my project so no hurry.
