Leaky Porch Roof
Well it looks like very soon I will need to have the porch roof of the porch replaced.
I noticed during this horrible weather that the roof was leaking a little bit then during this last bad storm we had it was a whole lot worse than before. Parts of the roof are now missing completely.
It is going to need to be replaced, because I don't want it coming down on someone or rotting out the porch itself. That is something I don't want to happen because that things was just built.
Guess some time this week I will making phone calls to find someone to do the work. I know I sure can't do it myself. I would like to but seeing how I fear heights and I am not a carpenter that I had better find a professional.LOL.
It amazing how a few storms can cause such damage to things like roofs, porches, lawns, trees, homes and so on.

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
You may can get away with a patch job on the roof of the porch and it may even be flashing leaking from a crease or corner in the roof.Leaks are rarely from where the water is located at.They usually run down from somewhere else.
I had a leak in the center of the living room and when we found the cause of the leak it was over thirty feet the other direction on ht e roof of the house running down some ceiling joist and then through the cieling.

I feel for you. I fear the first day I see a leak in the roof because I know it is no cheap job.

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
I have to have my porch roof completely replaced because an entire section is missing thanks to all the horrible weather we have been having here. The high winds have managed to tear it apart.
For this reason I am going to just replace the entire thing to make sure that it is secure and hope that I won't have this problem again for many years to come.
Leaky roofs are horrible because the water looks as though it is coming from one place where in reality it is some where completely different and yes those kinds of jobs are horrible to deal with and can be quite costly in the end.
Thankfully this is just my porch roof that is leaking and it isn't something that I really have to have, but I like the shade it offers and makes it more comfortable to it outside, which is why I would rather put the money into getting it replaced than to just do away with it completely.

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
That's probably the best thing to do if it's been in the weather for a while.
My wife and I were upset when we noticed a water stain in our hallway after our first big storm this year.
She called a roofer and he got up on the roof to check it out for us, for free. He said all it was was a few nails came loose and using a tar patch compound would fix it.
So, I spent at least an hour up there and used better than a half a tube of roof patch to fill up the old patches.
Our roof is over 10 years old now and should have another 5 or 10 years left before it needs replaced, but it's a good idea to get up there every 4 or 5 years and check for damages from storms and whatnot.

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
We have experienced storm after storm here and now I have a leak in my bedroom. It's horrible. It's dripping just about three inches from my side of the bed! I had to put a pan there to catch the drips and when I wake up in the morning I almost put my feet into it!!!
My husband will be getting up there asap and fixing it or we are switching sides rofl!

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
Now that sure would be one hell of a rude wake up call, sticking your feet into a pan of freezing cold water.
I like that whole idea of switching sides, maybe if the hubby accidently stuck his feet into it a time or two, I bet he would be more than happy to get up there and get that leak fixed.
Good luck, I hope the leak is easily fixed and won't end up costing you a whole lot of money.

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
Most roofers will check that for free, they do that so if you do need a lot of work done they hope you will let them do it.
But you were lucky that it was something little that you could fix and not cost a bundle, and that he was honest about it.

Re: Leaky Porch Roof
I would get a roofing professional on that soon. Like you said,

I don't know how rotted that roof is, but a bad enough storm could bring that thing down. That would get very expensive very quickly.
