Default Kitchen Cabinet Help

As I have said before I have no closets in my very old house, and I have no cabinets in my kitchen. You know that you need alot of storage space in your kitchen to store all of those little gizmos that we all have that we never really use, LOL. Well I have all those gizmos but they are pretty much in storage because I have no room to put them away. I have looked into buying new cabinets, but they dont fit into my budget right now and I have looked at places like the goodwill and what not trying to find some that were used but still in good condition. I still havent found any. Any one have any ideas where I might be able to look for some kitchen cabinets? I just dont know where else to look. I know that it is a real hassle having everything jumbled together, then you have to dig through it all just to find what you are needing. Any ideas are appreciated! Thank everyone.

The only things I can think of is looking on craisglist.com or even putting a little ad on there saying what you need. You say that new cabinets aren't in your budget, what about the white wire shelving from Menard's? You can buy plenty of those for less than $50.

Thats a great idea, post what you are looking for on Craigslist. I bet you will get a response pretty quickly. You could even look around in your neighborhood. Maybe you will find an abandoned house and you could call the owner and see if you could make deal for the cabinets.

Thanks for your help, I never even thought of craigslist. I have tried to look into some of the homes that are being torn down in my area, but apparently it seems theives are way ahead of me, LOL. I have tried to put an add for cabinets in the paper, but the few who did call still wanted almost the same amount for used ones as new ones would cost me. I will look into craigslist, I am sure there I will be able to find some that are with in my budget. Thanks everyone.

i don't know how much space your kitchen has, but have you thought about utility cabinets, they stand on the floor with two doors and are about 5 feet tall?? you could put a lot of things and gizmos in there! loll. and some are very nice. get one made out of wood for about 100$ and it really would look good.

or how about adding shelfs with cabinets? just put up some nicely placed shelving...about 2 or 3 feet in length and about 1foot wide...and place some nice appliances and such on the walls that way.

so instead of trying to add expensive cabinets, try looking in other areas, to add space.

good luck!!

I recently saw a neighbor's kitchen, and just loved the way it looked. She had the same problem as you......no where to store anything, and little money to buy cabinets.

Her son came up with the idea of "cubes" mounted to the wall. He just took some wood that he had left over from a remodeling project and made her some cubes - I'd say they were about 2 feet square and deep. He painted them to match her decor and then mounted them on the walls, in a kind of off-set pattern. He then mounted a couple of shelves between. It really worked for her. She simply left most of them open and stored her glassware and dinnerware in them. She put little curtains up to a couple of them to hide contents that she didn't want displayed.

Wow that sounds like a great idea Missmannors!! That would be perfect in my kitchen and sounds like a project I could even do myself. Thanks for a great tip. This is something I will have to try. This would also work well in other rooms of my home.

Another place you could always look for things like that is the Good Will. You just never know what you may find or what ideas you can come up with.
