Build a Home's Value with "Faux"
If there are problems areas within your flip that need to be disguised, you may want to consider using faux wood or stone panels instead of tearing down drywall, or even to hide old paneling.
Artificial wood, brick and rock products can add a lot of resale value to a home. These are high-quality beams, panels and siding that are made from high-tech, durable, synthetic materials which have lifelike detail. They do look like actual wood, brick and stone.
These materials are easy to handle and install. One person can lift a 20' faux wood beam and two can attach it to the ceiling. The panels can be cut to size with a wood saw and they are easy to use to cover an entire wall.
An average remodeling hobbyist can build a brick fireplace or construct a pair of stone columns for the yard. All at a fraction of the cost and time it would take normally.
You can bring the comfort and elegance of a spa to the home using fake stone panels to surround a tub or spa. The fake stone panels make this easy and come in a wide variety of designs and shades that can be used to create a custom look.
For the home's exterior, you can turn ordinary flat soffit into a classy look using corbels. These corbels can also be used inside as part of a fireplace mantel or shelving. These come in many different shapes and sizes to fit where necessary. These are lighter, less expensive and easier to install than real wood corbels, and as an added feature, they don't rot or attract insects.
Homeowners often add faux ceiling beams to give a rustic barnlike feel to a room, but beams can just as easily change the mood in other ways. For example, smooth painted beams can give the room a light, restful, storybook cottage atmosphere.
Of course you can do any of these projects even if you're not planning to sell your home anytime soon, and get all the advantages of enjoying them yourself.
