Default Real Estate Agent Gets Blamed

Some of the shows that I watch about homes, I hear that at times the real estate agents are blamed for a variety of problems with a home as though they caused the problem.

This is something I disagree with. Real estate agents don't cause problems with a home. I will admit that I am sure there have been times when they have tried to hide a problem or two, but this isn't all of them.

I don't know why people feel the need to lay blame for things on a real estate agent but they seem to. It is a shame that this happens. There was one show I was watching where the agent got the blame for some problems with the wiring in a home that were hidden behind a wall.

This upset me because I am guessing that the agent didn't have X-ray vision to see this problem.

Granted the agent was mentioned pretty much in passing but the wording lead you to believe it was the agents fault and it's not right. Hopefully this won't happen to often. It can really hurt the career of an agent.

I care about all of my clients. Every single one. I tell every single one of them to have a home inspection. If they say they don't want one I repeat myself again and tell them that there are so many things that are hidden that they (and me) won't see just by walking through.

If they still refuse, I have them sign a form that said that even though I recommended an inspection, they refused and I will not be held liable for anything that may be wrong with the home.

As we walk through the home and I see something wrong with it, I always point it out. It's my job!

Do people really refuse to have a home inspection knowing that there could be costly expensive problems that can't be seen?? That just sounds insane!

I think before I bought a place I would want to really know what it is that I am getting myself into.

I just hate hearing agents getting blamed for things that they had nothing to do with. It's just not right.

If anyone should really be held accountable for problems with a home are the previous owners/ owners.

Thats really cool of you to at least make sure that a home inspection is in their very best interests. I like the idea that you have them sign the waiver as well because at least then it does show that you tried to do your part and help your client the best way you can. Great job Jared!

You would be surprised how many buyers say "Eh... my uncle Johnny used to do construction, I'm going to have him look at it". INSANE!!

I think that home inspections make a home purchase safer and make me feel better about the amount of money I am about to spend. This is somewhere that you plan to spend the rest of your life and raise your family.

Its like buying a car and getting a carfax report. If you wouldn't buy a car without one why would you buy a home without a proper inspection?
