Default Use the Proper Salt for De-icing Concrete

Winter time is here for most of us and with it comes lots of snow and ice. We need to break out the snow shovels and salt to melt the ice so we don't slip and fall. The thing is, you need to be aware of what type of salt you are using to de-ice your concrete sidewalks and driveways because some types can do a lot of damage to the concrete.

The wrong type of salt can make the surface of the concrete to disintegrate and you may soon see cracks appearing. There is a way to prevent that from happening.

Experts say to use rock salt made with potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride. The sodium chloride type will cause damage to concrete surfaces. They say the best thing to do is to prepare your potassium chloride salt before winter and have it ready to go. They say to mix it with regular playground sand and it will last you longer and work just as well.
