Default Save on Home Repairs

Whether you are needing repairs done in a flip home or in your own, hiring out to have repairs done can be very expensive. Most repairmen charge flat rate fees just for showing up at your doors and then charge an hourly rate too. There are a few things you can do to minimize those fees.

You don’t have to dread calling the repairman. There are several ways you can save money when you need home repairs.
One of the lesser joys of home ownership is having to make repairs when something goes wrong. That sinking feeling in your stomach, the feeling of dread when you pick up the phone to the repairman…you can soothe these by taking advantage of the following tips on trimming home repair bills offered by Andy Bell, founder of Handyman Matters, a franchise home repair service, and appearing in USA Weekend:
House Hunt News

I hope you can find these tips useful. I have never really considered how much they charge just for coming out to the house. If you can have all of the repairs scheduled for the first visit, you can save a lot on that initial fee.

I would NEVER pay a contractor by the hour.

I agree with you, Jared. Contractors should always be paid by the job, and never by the hour. Paying them by the hour would always cost an arm and a leg (or probably more than the house is worth, lol)

I'm extremely lucky in that my husband can do almost any needed repairs to a home, except some electrical which we have our electrician friend do, and this really helps us keep costs to a minimum.

Default Save on home repairs.

I am so glad that between my husband, myself, and my son, that we can do almost everything ourselves. This has saved us so much money through the years.

I was having my husband replace the faucets in the kitchen one time, and to be nice, I went and shut the water off, and decided to unhook the old faucet before he got home from work, imagining no water would be a great incentive for him to finish the job immediately on arrival from work.

Then I got to thinking, hmmmm, taking the old faucet out was easy enough, so I got to looking at the new one, and then started tinkering around, and before you know it the new faucet was installed, and without his help.

The moral of this little story is, you never know what you can do till you try.

Paying a repairman by the hour is not on my list of things to do either, some of them can make a half hour job last all day. And that can be super expensive.
