Rooms in order of importance
When I was looking to buy our house, the kitchen was the most important room to me. Simply because thats where my family spends most of the time. We do a lot of cooking as we have a lot of extended family and the kitchen must be very large and set up to be easy to cook in.
Next is the bathroom. It has to also be large and well laid out. I would prefer one with 2 sinks in it but since the kids are all grown and gone, it isnt that important anymore.
Also, the master bedroom is another important room to me. I am the type of person that like a room that is large and airy with lots of light if I want it.
So thats the order of importance of rooms in a house I would look to buy.

Re: Rooms in order of importance
For me, I'd order them almost as you did- just a little bit different.
First off, I agree that the kitchen is the most important for my family. We probably spend 65% of our time in the kitchen. Not necessarily cooking and eating but we tend to gather there and have coffee or whatever. The kids do homework there. We just do a lot in there in general.
Next for me is the family room. I have to have a nice size family room. I like to have lots of seating because we have a lot of get togethers, especially during football season and I also like a big Christmas tree so a big family room is a must.
Next for me would be the bedrooms. I also like to have a big bedroom. I have a California King size bed so a big room is a must.
The bathroom's size isn't all that important for me as long as I have a tub/shower, toilet and sink I am happy. We don't spend much time in there so that doesn't matter to me so much. Two sinks would be great but there are five of us in our house, one bathroom with one sink and we haven't killed each other yet lol!

Re: Rooms in order of importance
Its great that one bathroom works for you.
Actually though I would like to have another bathroom as like I said, we have a very extended family and when everyone comes to visit, they of course bring their kids and just having one bathroom can be kinda difficult. Especially in the mornings.
So I think we will at least finish up the partial bathroom in the basement for when company is here because I have had 14 people here at a time and the second bathroom would be a great addition.

Re: Rooms in order of importance
I tend to agree the kitchen is the one of the most important rooms in a house and the living room a close second.
If I had a family room then it would be my second choice of rooms of importance, then we would have more guests and holiday events.
The master bedroom is third on my list and a second bathroom is right there with it...
I like a large bedroom and we have a large bathroom joining our master bedroom...
Complete with shower, huge tub, walkin closet, two sinks with a huge wall mirror and lights above it, and a toilet of course with its own separation wall for privacy.
We don't use one of our two sinks and the bathtub is so big our hot water would run out before it's filled, so we don't use it either. If the bathtub had a jaccuzzi setup then we would probably use it.
The second bathroom is nice because we like to keep our master bath as our private retreat. And when more than one person has to go, the two bathrooms have come in handy many times with family gatherings.
Sure would love to have a family room.
I guess a large deck would work as a family room if it were somewhat inclosed.
I haven't gotten around to that yet, but thinking about it. The deck faces the west, so it would be nice to sit out at night and watch the sunset.

Re: Rooms in order of importance
i would have to say kitchen is most important too. im always cooking and once i get to trying to do more things then once if i dont have enough space it gets very annoying. i would need lots of counter space!!
next would be living room because thats where my family and company spends most time at. next bathrooms, i need more then 1!! sharing may be caring but too many people sharing the same bathroom sucks!! haha then would be my bedroom, it would have to be very big and id be happy!

Re: Rooms in order of importance
The kitchen in our house is very large and set up in a way that is very functional. In fact, we had a memorial dinner here for my grandson and over a hundred people came to our house to eat.
We have enough counterspace that all the food was placed on the counters and people just went around and filled their plates and it all worked out great.
Our kitchen is the heart of our home and always has been. In fact, everyone who comes to our house always come in the kitchen door and thats where we all end up sitting to chat etc.
So, when flipping a house, I feel that the kitchen is the one room in the house that is at the top of the list in importance.
