Default Repairing a Drop Ceiling

Drop ceilings arent something that you see a whole lot these days execpt for in older homes.

The reason older homes had drop ceilings were to conceal pipes and to help keep the living area of the home more comfortable.

Most older homes had higher ceilings and this made it more difficult to keep the place warm so drop ceilings were used.

For those who live in homes with drop ceilings and want to keep them around, knowing how to fix them is a must. It is quite easy to repair a drop ceiling actually.

First you start off by removing all the damage. Then inspect the railings which hold the tiles in place. Make sure that they too are not suffering any damage.

You also want to check each wire which is holding up the rails for your drop ceiling to make sure that they arent weak or allowing the ceiling to drop unevenly.

Once this is completed all you have to do is replace the ceiling tiles and bam your done, and have once again a great looking drop ceiling.

Alot of times there is a reason why the ceiling started dropping in the first place so you want to inspect the area around and above the dropped spot to see of there is any water damage that might have caused the problem to begin with.

If there is a water leak of course have it repaired first or the work you do to fix it will be affected.Tongue and groove strips of wood are the best thing to use on the ceiling, they are less likley to sag than sheetrock or ceiling tiles.

Be sure that the ceiling joist are not warped they can also cause this problem to occur.

I have a drop ceiling in my living room. My house is about a thousand years old lol. The ceiling has held up quite well though throughout the years. Thats one thing that we haven't had to do anything with. I had thought about taking it out but it does really help to hold the heat in and so I guess for now I am keeping it.
