Removing old carpet
First, remove the moldings around the floor and take off the door so you can move freely when getting the old carpet out. Vacuum the old one before cutting it into strips using a utility knife.
On one end, pull the old carpet off the tackless strips and roll it up. Remove all the tackless strips and existing underlay and ensure that the floor is clean and dry. At this time, you can check the condition of your floor as well and secure any boards that have loosen through time.
The last thing to do before installing new carpet is to install the new tackless strips around the room leaving about one-half inch space between the strips and the wall. Avoid installing the tackless strips in the front part of the doorways. Keep in mind that the tacks should be facing towards the wall
