Default Pumping Out Water

Well as I type to you all I am also in the process of pumping about 6" of water out of the basement here!!

We went out today and bought a pump to do the job (which I am seriously wishing we would have gotten a bigger pump) and now I am waiting. That is all I can do until it is cleaned out.

Last night the water rose up to nearly a foot in the basement and got into the furnance which is now no longer working.

Thank heaven for space heaters. I know it isn't freezing cold outside right now but soon the weather will be dipping below freezing again. Hopefully we can get the basement pumped out and the furnance repaired so that we have heat again.

I posted this here because here is a good tip for everyone.... Make sure that you have your furnance inspected every year to make sure that it is in good working order, and make sure that steps are taken to keep water out of the basement before problems begin.

Thats aweful. I know what you are going through because we have been dealing with the same thing. The river just flooded and of course that brought water into my house. I am used to it though. This is like the third or fourth flood we have gotten since we moved here in 2001. We are not in the "flood zone" but we are close to it. I love the location of my house at all times except for flood time!

I hope there is nothing majorly wrong with the furnace. As for the water... it will go away.

Well the water has been pumped out and now it is time to get the furnance checked out.

I don't understand why the furnance would be put on the floor in a basement where it floods. The water heater and other things down there are all up on blocks to prevent the water getting to them.

This is going to be something else that needs to be taken care of around his house.

When he bought this place and it was inspected, there was never one mention about the basement flooding!! That is upsetting because if he had known it flooded he would not have chosen that place!!
