Lighting to Match the Decor
While considering the style you want to decorate a room with, you need to also think about the lighting. There are thousands of lighting choices available to choose from.
The lighting in a room is very important. It has the effect to set peoples moods. It adds warmth and a feeling of coziness. It can set the right atmosphere for entertaining.
Ambient lighting brightens the whole room. An example of this is track or recessed lighting. These are great to light up an entire room. You may want to install these with a dimmer so that you will have flexibility as to how bright you want the room at times.
Task lighting is to help you see the task at hand. An example of this would be a reading light or a desk lamp. Task lighting should be glare free and should not allow your eyes to be strained.
Accent lighting is lighting that is focused to bring attention to artwork or architectural elements of a room. Accent lighting is about three times as bright as ambient lighting.
Natural lighting is natural light that streams through windows, skylights and doors. Of course depending on what time of day and what time of year it is decides the brightness of natural light.
Before you run out and do all of decorative shopping, take the time to consider each room, the style you want to convey and what will be happening in each room. When you know what you want, include your lighting fixtures on your list.
