Default Flipping Houses In The Winter

I have never been in the position that would allow me to flip a house. Though I am curious if house flippers stick to only doing this during the warmer months like spring, summer and fall or all year long including winter??

I would imagine that flipping a house in the winter would be a whole lot more difficult because the ground is frozen creating curb appeal problems and of course when a person is cold it makes it difficult to work.

The shows and things I have seen on TV I can't say I ever remember seeing anyone working on a flip during the winter months. I am just wondering if people flip homes through the winter or only during warmer weather.

I would suppose that it would depend on when the house was bought and how much interior work needed to be done. All of the interior work could be done in the winter time then come spring and the chance of frost is past, the curb appeal could be worked on.

This way of doing things would be for those flippers who are not in a hurry to sell the property and can at times be advantageous if they are low on money to finish the house.

I would have to say that selling a home happens all year. I have gone to look at homes in the winter months.

Getting out to look at them would only be affected by the current weather conditions.

I would judge the home by what I can see but alot of times there are pictures of the outside that were taken in the warmer months. These allow you to see the landscaping.

Heres my opinion.
Buying a house here in Michigan in the winter is a little tougher because of snow hiding what could be issues on the outside such as roof and driveway condition or even a leaky basement.Plus it's tough to get a feel for the neighborhood when there is little activity outside because of weather.

Thats the down side but I see there is a great side to it also.

The winter months could be spent completing all your inside work so all that needs to be done come spring time is outside issues and this would probably have your flip completed and ready for the market by what I would think may be the 2 hottest times to sell would be...when kids are out of school and just before they go back.
I would think most buyers with children would try to avoid switching schools in the middle of their year.JMO

LouMatt I believe that your right. It is difficult enough to move your children and moving in the middle of the school year does affect them alot.

They need to be able to finish out the year and then once moved they need time to get used to there new surroundings. Making new friends can be difficult and having the summer to do so would be a blessing for them.

Winter in michigan makes it tough to do anything your right there. I think it is a great time to get the fixing up part done however. Thanks for sharing your opinion its really nice to hear from someone else where you might be making a mistake.
