Default Drywall

Walls in homes used to be finished with lath boards and plaster years ago. Drywall has since become the better concept for covering an unfinished wall or ceiling.

With a little know how and some patience, drywalling can be cost efficient and a time saving way to go.

Here Is How:

Gather the proper tools-
utility knife, keyhole saw, drill, hammer, chalk line, trowel, sandpaper, goggles, drywall tape, hard hat and gloves. A mask is also wise to wear while sanding.

Hang drywall-
The worst part of this step may be the manhandling of the drywall, especially if doing a ceiling. One of the most important things to remember is that drywall should always meet on a stud. No corners should ever be left without a stud to anchor to. If a sheet of drywall needs to be cut, simply score a line where you want it cut, bend it, score the other side and then snap it off. Install the drwall using drywall nails or screws, counter-sinking them if possible.

Finishing with Plaster-
All seams and nails or screws will need to be plastered over. First apply drywall tape to seams. Apply plaster as needed with a trowel. If the drywall was hung properly it won't take that much. Allow the plaster to dry thoroughly. Next, sand the plaster smooth. When finished, you should not have any visible seams or nail/screws.

Now you are ready to make your room look finished with paint, wallpaper or whatever you choose.

When it comes to drywall, we all now and again end up with a crack in it or a hole and to fix these, I use a product called Wall Span.

This is a self-adhesive, exra strong fiberglass mesh that reinforces reoccuring cracks. You can also use it to repair plaster and stucco.

It works great with any spackling or joint compound, and is perfect for interior or exterior use.

This product makes it so much simpler to repair holes in you drywall simply because it is a mesh and self adhesive.

Thanks for the tip. I have never used Wall Span before. I have used the tape that is mesh-like for the seams and what not. My three kids are pros at messing up walls. They are always goofing around, throwing balls and so on. I never know what new project they are going to create for me. LOL I will keep this product in mind.
