Default Carpet Choices

Shopping for carpeting for your home or for your flip can be overwhelming. There are so many different choices to choose from. Different style, colors, piles and so on. You need to figure out what will work best for you and the space that you are installing it in.

Two of the most popular choices are loop pile and cut pile. Cut piles have different styles such as shag, saxony, velvet and textured. Loop pile is individual strands of yarn pulled through the backing twice, creating a loop. The different styles of loop pile are berber, sisal and cable. Loop pile is a great way to go for high traffic areas of a home.

Wool carpeting is the most luxurious but includes a high price tag. A cheaper way to go is acrylic. It is very similar to wool but not as expensive.

Nylon is another popular choice. It holds up well in high traffic areas.

Olefin is a low cost type of carpeting. It is very easy to clean but it's downfall is that it crushes easily.

Something else you will want to consider is the color. If you have children or pets you may want to go with a darker color so that stains will be less easily viewable.

There are lots of choices to be made when looking for carpeting.

I hate to look for carpeting. If I had my way I would use that indoor outdoor stuff and say the heck with it. Now that is some durable stuff. The carpet in my kitchen needs replacing and I am dreading looking for new. I don't think that it will be carpeted this time however.

I want to do the wood laminate flooring or tile. It is easier to keep clean. The living room has a hardwood floor so I am going to buy a smaller carpet for in there. I want a India rug or oriental type to put down. Comfort and beauty.

I used to have carpet in my kitchen and with three kids.... well, you can imagine lol. We took the carpet out and layed tile. I would much rather have a floating floor put in though. They are so beautiful!

We installed an engineered wood, floating floor in our kitchen in our last house and it looked great. It was night and day compared to laminate as far as look goes.

Hello owencarpet, and welcome to New House Flip.

Could you give me more information on the flooring you installed please? I am looking to install a wooden floor of some kind in my 16 X 20 kitchen this spring.

What is the price like for this flooring? What are the advantages to this type of wood flooring as compared to the other types?

I am not familiair with this - what is a floating floor?

I installed top grade wood -look linoleum, and everyone, including a cabinet maker, thinks it's real wood it looks so good.

Engineered wood I suppose is like the decking we used?

Please explain!

We installed a product made by Bruce called Turlington. Here is a review of it by a website other than ours http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/har...gton-plank.htm

(As an fyi, we did this to help sell our previous house which had laminate at one time and then vinyl in the kitchen. After hearing a bazillion times those viewing our home wished the flooring was hardwood instead of vinyl we bit the bullet, it worked)

It is an engineered hardwood, meaning it is not a solid wood plank. It is still wood but layered. It is reasonably priced compared to solid hardwood flooring in the tavern/cabin grades. Since it is real wood, it looks great and as silly as it sounds even sounds like wood should sound like when walking on (if you have a laminate floor, you will know what I mean by this). Also, it can be installed as a floating floor so it is not nailed down or glued down to the floor, it goes directly over the wood subfloor or a cushioned underlayment ( be sure to read the installation instructions). One downfall is the top layer (the actual wood grain layer) is thin compared to solid plank, so your refinishing options years down the road are limited.

Prices will range on the internet from $2.39/ft from cabin grade to upwards of $5.00/ft for first quality. I got a little better deal as my family owns a floorcovering store in Dalton.

Thanks for the welcome to the boards!

For your wood-look linoleum did you put in what some call a luxury vinyl plank or tile. Porbably by Nafco or Karndean? Just curious.
