Default Assess Your Basement

How do you use the space in your basement. Is it cluttered with items you have no idea where else to put? Is it an extension of your junk drawer? If so you need to make an assessment of the space and figure out how to best use it.

If you are fortunate enough to have a basement, chances are you have discovered--or at least thought about--how useful basement storage can be. Just how good it can be for storage, as well as for use as a new living space, often depends on the age of the house.

My home is quite old and the basement has a low ceiling and it does get damp, I cannot store many items down there because they will ruin quickly. I would love one day though to be able to seal it up somehow and use it as a game room. It would be a great place for the kids to hang out.

Because of where we live, and the fact that we have had several floods in the past, going to the expense of turning our basement into additional living space is not possible.

But we have made the possibility of safe storage of items a lot more "flood" safe by having shelves put up on the walls on which to store stuff so that it doesnt have to be moved in case of flooding and to keep things out of harms way.
