Default Tips on being green

1.Use cast iron pans instead of nonstick

2.Go easy on processed, canned or fast foods and never microwave plastic, to keep chemicals out of or water.

3.Buy organic foods.

4.Seal outdoor wooden structures.

5.Leave your shoes at the door, this will cut down on any dust-bound pollutants in the home.

6.Avoid perfume, cologne and products with any added fragrance.

7.Buy products with natural fibers, such as cotton and wool, that are naturally fire resistant.

8.Filter your water for drinking and cooking.

Those are different ideas for sure. I use non stick pans all of the time. I use less oil or grease in these types of pans. I do have the old iron skillets also but we don't use them as often as we used to.

Now when it comes to household cleaners I prefer squirt or spray bottles to any type of aresol can. They can explode for one and second it is so easy to end up with a faceful of those chemicals with those.

I try to do all that I can to lessen my carbon footprint. We stopped burning our trash and now have a small dumpster. Still don't like sending it to a landfill but they do have restrictions on what you can put in it so that helps too..

Thanks for the ideas.

There are some things I am willing to give up on to help the planet, though there are some which I won't.

I love my nonstick pots and pans. These are much healthier cleaning and I don't think cast iron pans can be cleaned enough for my liking. Then there is the perfume... Sorry I love my perfume's to much to stop using them.

However I have done just about everything else I can to help make the world a better place, and I help others do the same.

I don't use store bought cleaners, I make my own. I can my own food when I can and so on. You don't have to give up everything that you like to go green. Most of the time there are alternatives to just about everything we like and do that will help the future.

We all just have to look, plan and research and we all can make a big difference.

I buy the cheapest air filters possible, typically they are the recycled filters too! These filters are cheap because they do not filter the air as well as other filters. There is almost no difference in the amount of dirt the cheap ones and the expensive ones filter.

I'm usually the first person to suggest using the cheapest alternative on flipping houses, but I always go with top-end filtering solutions. Here in Indiana, allergy season is absolutely ridiculous. My son Mark is absolutely miserable during hay heaver season. Recently I installed Aprilaire filters throughout the house, and his allergies seem to have gotten better.

Has anyone else found a good hypoallergenic filter?

I live in Ohio, and hay fever season here is also bad. Thats why filters are so very important and going with a better filter to me makes more sense if they actually do filter out more dirt and air borne contaminants.

I also think that having house plants in your home cut down on many of the air pollutants that enter your home. And as long as no one is allergic to any of your house plants, they can help clean the air in your home to the point that over 102 known contaminants can be filtered just through your house plants alone.

If someone does find a better filter, please share with us allergy sufferers.
