Default Tax credit for remodel

There is a tax credit that is still available for remodeling your home. To qualify for the credit you need to implement Energy Star products into your home. The tax credit is worth 30% of the cost of the items up to a total of 1500 dollars back.

There are differt items you can use to help qualify for this tax credit. One way is by installing solar power into your home or even installing a solar powered water heating system. You can also replace older doors with ones rated as energy efficient or even installing high efficiency windows. Another way is by using Energy Star appliances. It is best to make sure with the store you get these items from that they will qualify under the credit as there are a select few that will not.

If anyone knows more items that qualify please let me know.

Thank you for the useful information. We welcome all ways of saving money on all of our home or house flipping updates.

We are planning on replacing our garage door this fall and I wonder if we would be eligible for a tax credit for doing that. Are there garage doors that are rated energy efficient?

I will look onine to find out but if you already know, could you post here to let me know please?

We are also going to replace our kitchen stove this winter. Ours works just fine but is 15 years old and I want to replace it before anything does go wrong so that would qualify for a tax credit I am sure.

Again, thanks for the information.

Yes there are ways to qualify for the tax credit when buying a garage door. I have found some info on this for you. I hope it helps you out.

Quote:
HOW TO IDENTIFY AN ELIGIBLE GARAGE DOOR
To be eligible for the tax credit, the purchased garage door must meet all of the following criteria:
The door must be an insulated residential garage door.
It must be installed on an insulated garage.
The door must have a U-factor equal to or less than 0.30, even if the door contains glazing.
If the door contains windows (glazing), the door must offer a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) equal to or less than 0.30.
The door perimeter must have a means to control air infiltration.
The door must be expected to remain in service for at least five years.
The garage must be part of the taxpayer's principal U.S. residence.
Dealers should provide homeowners with a Manufacturer’s Certification statement and a breakdown of the material and labor costs.

Thank you so much for looking up that information for me.

It seems to be relatively easy to install a door on our garage that will meet all of the criteria necessary to earn the tax credit.

Plus, the new door will save us a lot of money in the long run because it will help to keep our garage much warmer than it has been in the past.

Again thanks for posting this information.

I wonder if the credit would include things that are eco-friendly such as recycled wood and so on.

We have done some remodeling so it would be great to know.
